Create your own syntax highlighting, autocompletion etc

Ok, I've seen a few posts here asking for syntax highlighting for different languages ( ASP.NET, Ruby, etc ). How about giving the end user the ability to create syntax highlighting for whatever they want, like following editors:

http://www.editpadpro.com/cgi-bin/cscslist2.pl
http://www.editplus.com/files.html

Or does this functionality already exist ?

No, there's no way to do this currently. It has been requested quite a few times already. I'm hopeful for 2007.

Search feature on the forum doesn't allow regular expressions but it would have turned that up. ;)

The problem is that our product is tightly integrated with the current syntax highlighting solution, in fact, many code editing features depend on it. Changing it would mean that we have to re-write the product which have been written for years now and that does not look like an option.

However, rest assured that we are well aware of this request and we will try to do something about this in the future.

We will try to cover ASP.NET, Ruby, Python and some other languages in the following months and also the HTML highlighting with <table <img etc. in different color.

ah, I see. It's not a big deal for me personally but seems like a drain for you guys every time some one asks for a new language to have to go and manually create it. Ruby and coldfusion are the only one's I've ever really wanted but if there was highlighting for other things, I might be less chicken to try them out. ;)

Also, for what it's worth, I'd prefer table/form/img tags to not be a different color. html tags are html tags and I want them to be consistent. Of course, this is just a personal preference and I guess that's where your challenge as a developer comes in - we all have our styles.

Thanks for all the work Karlis. Webbuilder rules the school.
