WeBuilder 2006 beta

New release and update announcements

WeBuilder 2006 beta

Postby Karlis » Sun Feb 19, 2006 7:31 pm

Finally I have the pleasure to announce the long awaited beta release of WeBuilder 2006. The beta version is available to everybody (as a trial version).

Before you download and install, please carefully read the following:
* Beta is stable and as far as we have tested it looks bug-free, however there are no warranties
* Full (non-trial) version will not be available for beta, please wait for the final (planned at the end of February)
* Fixing bugs is the priority. Please report any to http://www.blumentals.net/support/support.php
* No new features (except those listed below) will be added in the nearest release. We will start adding new features and releasing free updates after the stable 2006 version is released.
* Features to be added in final release or early updates
*Settings export from version 2005 to 2006
    *JavaScript DOM definitions
    *Documentation update
    * SQL syntax highlighting
    *Maybe: Code templates
*Maybe: Load/save workspace (for those who need to open a list of files at once - in some other products misnamed ad projects feature)
    *Maybe: some other minor features

* Information about updates, upgrades and costs will be published later, please do not inquire about it now.
* You can install version 2006 beta together with 2005, however it is recommended that after installing version 2006 you do not run the 2005 again (if you run 2005 after 2006 is installed, you will loose new feature toolbar buttons and menu items in 2006, these can be restored by deleting all layouts from the layouts folder).
* We did not have time for all feature suggestions. If the feature you are waiting for is not yet available, it might be included in one of the free updates that will come later this year

To help us release the final version 2006 as soon as possible, please contact us regarding the beta only if you have a bug report or a critical suggestion, all other comments are welcome to be posted here.

Oh, almost forgot, the download link:

So Far So Good

Postby TomTinsley » Mon Feb 20, 2006 12:55 am

Initially I wish my external tools had been pulled from the previous version. Other than that everything at first glance seems good. I have removed the 2005 version and am only using the beta.

If I install the beta and I have problems, can I keep running 2005 as if nothing happened? I have to many projects going to experiment... but I want to!

Thanks,
Will

Should we post bugs to this thread?

Just a tiny one in the installation. At the end it has the compatability information... it says:
"This file contains the most important information about the WeBuilder 2005.
"
... just the wrong year (and you don't need the 'the')

I've of course installed it anyway...how could I resist?
Looks the same! Would love to see a 'what's new in 2006'.

For people considering the beta, FYI...
Auto imported all of my projects, snippets, window layouts and FTP sites just fine. :)
My old default 'new' HTML file isn't used.

and the line number bug is fixed. thank you karlis!

added...
uh oh. I had several documents open. I restarted the app to see if it held their position (a hoped for feature request). when it reopened, it loaded the default html file only - not the docs I had open.

You can post less severe issues here and more important bug reports can be sent to e-mail.

Open document order should be remembered correctly. Please make sure that you have selected the right option in Preferences - "Open previously opened documents (if any)." This setting is not automatically exported from 2005, so you will have to re-set it.

is there a way to change the colors of the backgrounds on the auto brace select in CSS. I really like the idea but the color is distracting me. I didn't see it in options/colors but maybe I missed it.

If that's not possible, is it possible to turn it off?

Thank you,
Will

No, this is not possible. The selected color is the mildest possible, if it was red or dark blue it would be more distracting. Bot you can turn the bracket highlighting off in Settings.

Elygen, if you are a registered user of WeBuilder 2005 (and the registration was done in past 3 months, please drop me an e-mail, I can send you version that works longer), official full version will be available within week (if nothing goes wrong).

Full path in window title bar ..... YES!

Postby markd » Thu Mar 02, 2006 4:07 pm

Seeing the full path writ large and clear is exactly what I wanted to see!
A small but monumentally important change. Thank you.
