inetprotect and microsoft updates

Postby oracledba » Wed Nov 01, 2006 6:38 am

I'm a new inetprotect customer. Have a dumb question.
I have inetprotect configured to disallow internet access always. I do have a list of allowed sites as well as a few programs such as email which is allowed.

My concern is I do not want to prevent microsoft's critical updates.

I have added update.microsoft.com and microsoft.com to the list of allowed sites but this doesn't seem to be enough because if I Manually check for updates it doesn't load correctly. I get a message from microsoft stating
"The website has encountered a problem and cannot display the page you are trying to view. The options provided below might help you solve the problem" this manual check seems to indicate that automatic updates would also fail.

Please advise on how to configure so a manual check of updates from microsoft would succeed and more importantly, automatic updates would succeed.

I emailed support and received a timely responce.
Here is the solution - add these two entries to the 'Allowed Sites' list:

-microsoft.com
-windowsupdate.com
