problems with outlookexpress 5 in win98

Postby zalterno » Thu Jan 18, 2007 5:06 pm

hi, i installed inet on winXphome and use thebat. works fine!

i want to disable all browsing, but allow emails.
my problem is that i installed it in a PC with win98 and outlook express 5 and when i try it...it just wont connect, and sends an error.

1) installed on pc win98
2) added password
3) added the outlook exprees exe file in the allowed prog list
4) added email, file sharing and all expect browsing boxes
5) wont connect.

I tried this same process with winxp and the bat and it worked fine. i wonder if theres issues with win98.

thanks for all your help

The issue is more than likely down to Outlook Express. You may have to allow more than "outlook express.exe file" (msimn.exe) to get it to work, as it may be another program or DLL thats actually trying to communicate with the outside world.

With TheBat!, that works as its just that program accessing the 'net.

This is just a stab in the dark though. I'll have a test with my virtual '98 box later on and test.

It could be that the anti-virus system is to blame, because sometimes anti-virus sits between email client and the internet.

I'd suggest to add the IP addresses of your e-mail servers (both POP3 and SMTP and IMAP also if you use those) to the allowed IP list.

Hm, very weird. No ideas, really. Hopefully you are planning to upgrade from Win 98 to newer system.
