Using https with Webuilder (and XAMPP)

I am quite aware that this is not really the right forum, but goodness me, I am hoping someone can point me in the right direction.

I'm a long time Webuilder user. Because I use a lot of server side includes, I have always used the Preview >Mappings feature to establish mappings to a localhost server, which I run using XAMMP. Took me a while to set-up the right XAMPP settings, but there you go. Been working a treat for years. Then I moved my site to https, which involve changing the htaccess files. Ooops! My live site is fine. XAMPP is not, and in consequence my Webuilder preview function.

After much searching, it seems one needs a PhD to set up a local server to create a certificate and deal with these issues. Yes, I know this has little to do with Webuilder. I am grasping at straws here, but perhaps someone on this forum can point me to a compact site that lays out in detail the steps I have to take to set up my Apache local server to use https.

Thank you for your time.
Garry

Hello, everyone
I want to buy Rapid PHP. Education PHP privat.
I have XAMPP 3.2.4 and want to simulate MailForms!
The current version gives the following error.

Warning: mail(): Failed to connect to mailserver at "localhost" port 25,
verify your "SMTP" and "smtp_port" setting in php.ini or use ini_set() in
C:\xampp\htdocs\Local\prof_websites_examples\mail_frm .php on line 55

Do you have any idea how I configure sendmail.ini (xampp/sendmail...)
