Cannot get the menus to work

Postby dwsnead » Mon Mar 26, 2012 11:56 pm

Hello,

I have developed 2 menus to use in a new website. I have saved both menus to their own folders and intended to use them as page inserts into their own cells in a master page which I do all the time. Once I save the menus to their own folder and insert them as page includes and then publish them they stop working and the hover graphics turn into placeholders for the gif files. Popouts cease to work and the horizontal menu turns vertical. I have tried associating the style.css with each cell but that doesn't work either.

This is how I intend the page to look with the 2 menus:

Here is how the menus look on their own pages:

Note: I want topbar aligned right but do not have setting to do so.

Here is how the page looks when I publish the included menus:

Note: Spacing is lost, hover links are lost, top menu is vertical and in general it all looks like crap.

How do I fix this?

Regards, David

1) "I want topbar aligned right but do not have setting to do so."

Use float: right CSS property for the element that includes the menu, like: <div style="float: right">...menu here...</div>. More info here: http://www.w3schools.com/css/css_align.asp

2) The problem with 2 menus.

First of all the menus look ugly because css files have not been included in the page. I'm looking at the source of index3 and you're missing line that should look like this: <link rel="stylesheet" href="mbcsmbmain_top_bar.css" type="text/css" />

Secondly, since both of menus seem to be created from the same base, you need to open these menus, change Unique menu ID in Misc tab to something different for each of the menu (for an example "top" and "side") and export them again.

Let me know if you need more help.

Thank you Aivars...this is helping me. I have moved the page to it's own folder and now all is working except the hover graphic goes to placeholder.

As I see it, you're trying to put the images in /includes/site_menus/topbar/ but when you exported the menus you probably used "I will put image files in the same directory as the menu". What you need to do is select "I will put files in a subdirectory" and enter "/includes/site_menus/topbar" (with the starting slash which makes this path relative to site root and not the current page).

Thank you very much Aivars! I appreciate the time you took to walk me through it. I now have the code editing figured out and how to separate menus, files and folders in a logical manner. I will perform more refinements as I rework the new site. Being able to quickly throw together fold out menus was my main attraction to your program and I am very happy with the speed with which I can do this with simple local websites that need direction to a lot of content.

Here is the final mockup:

Once I finish all the templates I will delete this file and future forum users can just go straight to the root websites.

Best regards and thanks again,
Dave
