FTP settings

Postby Sheff » Sat May 30, 2009 2:44 am

I had to reinstall Windows. I'm reinstalling RapidPHP and I don't know where the FTP settings are. Please help. I brought back library.xml successfully, but I don't know what to do about FTP sites.

Thanks,

FTP settings are stored in the Registry, however you can use the automatic backup Options -> Export Settings from the old system to the new one.

I now have Windows 7 on a new computer, so am attempting to transfer the FTP settings for RapidPHP 2010 from my XP machine o the new one. I followed these instructions, but no luck. Am presuming it's Win 7 issue. Any ideas to save me a lot of re-entering of FTP logins?

When you export settings from Windows XP to Windows 7 you must note that in Windows 7 the application data directory is located at other location. On Windows 7 it is:

C:\Users\<Username>\AppData\Roaming\Blumentals\WeBuilder\settings
while in XP it is
C:\Documents and Settings\<Username>\Application Data\Blumentals\WeBuilder\settings

Also you must note that WeBuilder must not be running during the copying of settings files either on target or source computer.

I just tested and it seems to work.

It's actually RapidPHP 2010 I'm using. I followed your instructions (replacing WebBuilder with RapidPHP), but no luck. The FTP setting from my old XP machine do not appear on the new Win7 one.

(Though I do seem to remember this approach worked Rapid PHP 2006 from XP to XP when I swapped computers several years ago)

Any other ideas?

Thanks

I have no other ideas as it seems to work. It did not work when I broke the rules, but if you follow instructions and do close the application when asked and after that immediately copy all the files to the target PC, it seems to pick up the settings just fine, well at least for me and other users.

Most likely an username has changed or you are putting the files in the wrong directory. You must have settings.dat file amongst the files to be copied, it contains the FTP data and is only generated AFTER the application is closed upon request but it is deleted the next time application is launched.

So if you clicked Export Settings and then copied files, it is wrong, you should have closed the application first.
