Previewing PHP Files in Webuilder 2007

Postby snorkytheweasel » Thu Nov 15, 2007 2:29 am

I'm getting the "The software is not yet configured for previewing PHP files" error.

I'm using XAMMP for PHP and Apache.

Webuilder configuration appears correct:

Options => Preferences => Preview => Mappings shows:
D:\Program Files\webdev-tools\LAMP\xampp\htdocs\sites\ - http://localhost
D:\Program Files\webdev-tools\LAMP\xampp\htdocs\sites\ - http://127.0.0.1

Apache & PHP are working:

If I save a file as
D:\Program Files\webdev-tools\LAMP\xampp\htdocs\sites\ index.php

I can open it in IE and FF via URLs
http://localhost/sites/index.php and http://127.0.0.1/sites/index.php

Also, I can open XAMMP's
D:\Program Files\webdev-tools\LAMP\xampp\htdocs\phpinfo.php

Now what?

D:\Program Files\webdev-tools\LAMP\xampp\htdocs\sites\ - http://localhost

is wrong

D:\Program Files\webdev-tools\LAMP\xampp\htdocs\ - http://localhost

is right, because web root is:
D:\Program Files\webdev-tools\LAMP\xampp\htdocs\

so it corresponds to
http://localhost/

Viewing PHP files in Webuilder 2007

Postby robertc » Mon Nov 26, 2007 2:22 pm

I had an instance just yesterday when a PHP page I had been previewing quite happily last week suddenly started to report it wasn't configured properly and couldn't display the page.
I checked the mappings and they all looked OK so I tried again but it still failed.
So I went back to the mappings, edited the mapping I was using although I didn't change anything just Edit and OK and it all started to work again.

Because xampp is a program, and can live in program files. For the same reason WeBuilder shouldn't be installed in the root directory!

Anywahere other than root on a drive just make server paths more difficult map. Default install goes into C:\xampp.

I switched to Apache2Traid with php5 and mysql 5 to avoid some security issues with xampp.

Well, some programs are installed not in the program files folder (mainly developer toos with ide and things like that).

In this case, xampp makes a suggestion for vista. Install in root not in program files. This is because of the recurrent UAC vista has.
