Rapid PHP 2011 vs Win7

Post by Webman »

I am running Windows 7 and Rapid 2011. A few days ago the program started to freeze up and go non-responsive. Any advice as to why this is now happening?

http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/what_is_hang.html

Obvious questions. Does it do it on all files, or one particular one? (trying to work out if its a file issue, or system issue)
Are you always doing the same thing before the hang? (eg, insert a large snippet, or drag in an image, etc)
Unfortunately, "it hangs" isn't enough to pinpoint where its happening, or steps to reproduce.
There aren't a flurry of similar support issues relating to hangs on Windows 7, so it doesn't look like its a global issue. I assume other programs you have are well behaved and don't hang? (a friend moaned that Word always hung, but letter questioning proved it was most programs, and as a result, Windows was beyond help, and needed shooting).

Thanks for your reply. I really appreciate it. Good questions actually. The programs ALWAYS freezes while I am cutting and pasteing. I have to shut the program down, reopen. It works for a while and again...the frustrating part is not saving the changes and loosing everything. Does this help some?

Sort of. Do you have any 3rd party clipboard 'tools' running? Do you have the 'extended clipboard' running? To turn this off, click Edit then Extended Clipboard to view the clipboard panel. Then, in the clipboard panel, click the Disable Clipboard Monitoring icon (the red No!!! icon).

No guarantees its that of course - just removing possibilities.

Does it do the same thing cutting one word as it does cutting a hundred words? And is it always cutting, or does copying and pasting do it as well? Does it make a difference if preview is open or closed? Any project or just one? It would be interesting to know whether disabling clipboard monitoring has any affect. There could be many things causing this, from a virus, keylogger to software monitoring the clipboard in real time (anti-virus of malware scanners) or as chrisjlocke suggests, third-party clipboard/screen grabbing tools. It could also be faulting RAM, or even a hard drive issue. We'd need more info to make better suggestions, like what other process are running at the same time? (that is, what programs are running in the background and does turning them off or killing the process via the task manager make any difference?)
