How do you save current windows setup in HTMLPad?

The settings are saved when you close the editor. Then next time you open it, it has the same layout.

layout not preserved upon restart of htmlpad.

Try selecting "View -> Save Layout"
Then select "View -> Manage Layouts" and select the layout you just saved.
