How do I change the line break character:

Postby Jerrry » Mon Oct 24, 2005 2:53 am

When I hit <shift>Enter I get a standard line break character <br>, which if just fine. However, I would like to get <br /> instead. I cannot figure out where to change this.

Please forgive the ignorance,
Jerry

THE ANSWER IS.........

Postby MoeBass » Mon Oct 24, 2005 4:47 pm

...check the !DOCTYPE declaration for the file you are editing.
example:
Code: Select all
<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN">
produces <br> for a Shift+Enter while
Code: Select all
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">
produces <br /> for a Shift+Enter.

Note: to change DOCTYPE in-a-hurry, select "!DOCTYPE" from the insert menu and choose a predefined option from there.

if, no matter where you go, nothing seems to change, maybe it's time to look at what you're bringing with you.
