Recommended image size & ratio please

I saw in an earlier post that Karlis recommended 1024 x 768. But is seems to me that most new monitors are "shorter and longer" - more of a letterbox format. I want my screensavers to look good on the majority of monitors that people are using today. My new laptop, for instance, has a 12 x 7.5 in. screen and the pixels would be 1280 x 800 to fit it. Need some advice before I go ahead and resize/crop a whole bunch of images. Thanks.

With modern screens there is no more such thing as a standard ratio and it can make things difficult if you create full-screen picture screensavers. I'd recommend to stick to the 1024x768 for a while as it holds the most popular ratio yet. Also we are planning to introduce new sizing options and special effects in Screensaver Factory 5 that would 1) make non-full screen picture screensavers appealing 2) let you crop the images just a bit instead of displaying black lines
