SF 6.5 & Windows 8.1 - .scr fails with "File not" message

Postby shannon_clyde » Thu Dec 12, 2013 5:17 pm

Screen Saver .SCR fails when testing is attempted in Windows 8.1 Screen Saver Settings.
Error message:

Title: Screen Saver
Message: File not

Is Screensaver Factory Version 6.5 supported on Windows 8.1?

It works just fine, I just tested on Windows 8.1.

Maybe it has something to do with permissions, let me know where have you installed your screensaver (e.g. c:\Users\Myself_000\saver.scr) so I can test that (or analogical) location on my Windows 8.1 PC.

Ok, this is the problem. You can only put 64-bit applications in system32 folder, but Screensaver Factory screensavers are 32-bit applications for better compatibility with a wider range of computers. For some reason Microsoft has made it confusing like this and we can't do anything about it. The system32 equivalent for 32-bit screensavers is c:\windows\SysWOW64 folder, but I would suggest just installing them to either windows or Program Files folder to avoid these problems altogether.
