Shareware Key Gen question

Postby swag72 » Mon Sep 15, 2014 4:06 pm

I've looked around the internet for over 2 days now trying to find the answer to this question - I hope that someone can help me.

I want to set up a screensaver using the Shareware key Gen process. I have put in seed number 0, put in a name and generate the code then save the project and create the .exe file. This is then uploaded to the net for download by the person who's name was used to generate the code.

When I want to change the name and key for another person for example, do I need to re open the project use the seed numger 0 again, put in someone elses name and create a code for the, then resave the whole lot and re upload the new version to the net for download?

This is the only way I can see this working, but can't but think that this is a very long winded and labour intensive way of doing it.

No, there is no need to create a separate screensaver for each customer. The seed in combination with the customer name serves as a starting point to create unique license keys for your customers.
When creating a screensaver:

1) Choose a seed. It might be a zero, but I suggest choosing something else and more difficult to guess.
2) Set up registration data by selecting “Unique registration keys” and entering the chosen seed in Selling > Registration > Key seed.
3) Make the screensaver and upload it on your webpage.

When you need to generate a key, run the Registration Key Generator, enter your seed and customer name. The Key Generator will return a unique license key. The idea is to use the same seed in both the screensaver and Key Generator to get valid licenses for the customer.

Run the Key Generator by pressing Key Generator button in Selling > Registration. Or run keygen.exe directly from c:\Program Files\Screensaver Factory (or Program Files (x86) on 64-bit Windows).

Many thanks for that - It makes it very clear. It would be good if something this simple to follow were put in the help information.

Just a follow on from this to check I've understood it correctly.

If I am making a screensaver I pick a seed number and upload the screensaver to the web and save the project. Then when I want a unique key code I can open up the project and us the Key Gen to generate a key code, then send that to the person buying the screensaver. Is that right?

Can you suggest why the nag-screen isn't showing after the screensaver exits? Or, what do I need to enable to get the 'order now' button to be available when the licence required box comes up?

Make sure you have "Create shareware screen saver" checkbox checked in Selling page, that you have "Ordering web page address" entered in Registration tab and that you have "Show nag-screen when screen saver exits" checkbox checked in Nag-screen tab.
