Vista 'file not found'

Postby charliemouse » Thu Nov 20, 2008 6:17 pm

I Vista problem: created a screen saver which works in XP, but in Vista it just gives 'file not found' at the point of selecting the screen saver or double clicking on it and running it. This only happens on some machines, not others.

I guess it might be a library or something the screensaver needs. Any idea what it might be looking for? .net, runtime libraries etc.

We want to use this as logon screensaver eventually.

Thanks

Further details of vista problems:

On one vista machine, the screen saver works

On a second machine, it works when used as a user, but when used as default logon screensaver, instead of fading image on and off, it fades "direct3d 9.0 is needed to run this screen saver, but can't be found. Please install the latest version of directx and trying running the screen saver again."

Clear it is installed, as it runs when logged on as a user.

On a third machine, as stated above, it just says 'file not found.'

So that's 3 different behaviours on 3 different Vista systems.

I should note I'm using a registered professional version of the software

Thanks for help with this.

One final piece of information:
The first machine (on which the screensaver worked) does not run the screen saver as logon screensaver: Instead of the direct X error, *this* one states:

"The exception unknown software exception (0xc0000005) occured in the application at location 0x00403a4e. Click OK to terminate program"

It then gives a second box saying "Runtime error 216 at 00403a4E"

All normal screen savers are selected fine as logon screensaver using reg key detailed in http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314493

In addition to not working at all on one of the three vista machines tested, it appears it runs as logon screensaver on None! Help!
