I've received a spam message here

Postby albo » Fri May 08, 2009 9:12 pm

FYI I received a notification of a posting of a private message from userid "profilicus" containing linkable text "Important to read" which, upon clicking, leads to a Viagra ad. "profilicus" is shown to have joined on April 29. I don't know whether this is common.

Spammer deleted + IP address banned.

Nowadays they will go ridiculous lengths just to do their evil thing.

I got one also. Left it in my private message box so you can snag the IP address and blacklist it.

Thanks !!

I just got one from gensurik which links to a weird spam bot site where you put a code into a form but never goes anywhere:

phpBB Anti-Spam Features

Postby websquad » Wed Jun 03, 2009 7:02 pm

I see that phpBB has a number of anti-spam features ....

http://www.phpbb.com/about/features/

Have you given thought to implementing any of those? Some are added by version 3, which, if I read the source code for this particular page correctly, you appear to be using.

They strike again. I'll try to figure out how to bounce them off. We are already using e-mail verification and captcha, obviously it is not enough.

So I upgraded the forum software (it now uses better CAPTCHA) and turned off option that allows to send mass pms. So from now on only single-receiver pms are allowed.

This will not make spammers die, but it should punch them in the face at least.

Karlis,

CAPTCHA doesn't seem to stop spammers at all these days, seems to be a waste of time now.
I'll send you a PM on what I did on my PHPBB that completely stopped the spammers in one go.
