Rapid PHP on Linux

Here is some experience by our customer Michael.

This may be useful for somebody looking at Linux...

It was definitely a challenge. Primarily, the hard part was in regards to
setting up WinE (Windows Emulation, http://winehq.org/ and getting the right
libraries from a Windows installation to support the components that
RapidPHP uses for the editor. It's been a while since I was it up, but I
believe it was the MSHTML component that created most of the hassle. With
instructions on how to set it up, it shouldn't be a problem. It also did not
work with the newest version of WinE when I set it up. Unfortunately I can't
check the versions I'm using right now as I'm not at home, but I could send
a follow up with that information. I'll also give it a shot with the newest
version of WinE, to see if they have since updated some of the bugs that had
prevented me from using their most recent version in the past.

Also, RapidPHP works on XandrOS (http://www.xandros.com/) just fine without
any need to configure an emulator.

RapidPHP works currently "from the box" using Wine. But there are troubles to set up everything past IDE itself, like FTP integration, and it is a bit slow.

See my post about how I work on Linux and RapidPHP for 10 months already here: http://forums.blumentals.net/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=4657&p=17060
I hated all the crashes, instability of Windows - so I found a solution. Now I can work, backup, use Linux Apache server, GIT and all the nice stuff of Linux and RapidPHP together easily.

And BTW: Virtualbox has a seamless mode, presented on the picture there :)
