So here it is... a request from one of our users.
Update: A friend of mine pointed out a situation. He deletes the file from the disk via some other program (e.g. moves the original copy to some other folder) and wants to re-create it immediately by hitting save. He can not do it now if save is disabled. So this can actually annoy some users.
I am against it, but what do our users want?
Disable Save for unmodified files?

Re: Disable Save for unmodified files?
The tab itself shows if it is dirty or not its just this is a personal bugbear of mine. It won't slow the software down as they're checking anyway, and your eye naturally navigates the the save icon.

Re: Disable Save for unmodified files?
Ha! I never noticed before reading this post that an asterisk is placed into the tab upon code change - thanks! That being said I still like to have the Save button 'dimmed' (NOT disabled) when the code I am looking at has not been changed, especially since I have my tabs at the bottom of the page. It's a bit of a standards thing anyway - many programs adopt this behavior. Also I agree w/ KeithHurst- how on earth can adding this dirt simple feature effect the program speed in any way?
