I'm trying Webuilder as an alternative to Homesite, which is dead. I have a basic question about Projects.
I can create a new project and fill it with all the folders/files below \htdocs.
But, I only want to have say, some folders in the project. So after I created the projects I just want to remove certain subfolders/files from the project, but certainly I don't want to delete them on the disc!
I tried the File Explorer, but when I say "delete' it actually deletes the folder/files on the disc...very dangerous.
Is there a way I can create/edit a project to only include certain subfolders under my \htdocs? And when removing a file to just remove it from the virtual project, not the disc?
Thanks

Re: Working in a "project", but don't want to delete actual file
At the present moment you can include files by file extension. No support for choosing individual folders is possible. We aim for simplicity in this area. In your case (as a workaround) you would define htdocs as your project folder and leave other files out of project.
Re: Working in a "project", but don't want to delete actual file
Okay, thanks for responding. It is great that Webuilder can access my "remote" mapped folders (CoffeeCup for example, could not do that). But I really need to make my project "virutual" - based on certain folders from underneath \htdocs. I may have 50 folders and need to make certain global changes in 10 of them or some other 20 of them. And, I need to make sure I don't mess with someone else's folders (I did that and my boss got very upset when his pages changed all of the sudden!).
Thanks anyway.

So maybe it is possible to define a part of your site as a project, not the whole site, if you only need to work with a part.

Another Homesite user here with a similar problem.Karlis wrote:So maybe it is possible to define a part of your site as a project, not the whole site, if you only need to work with a part.
Many of my projects involve the use/creation/editing of files and folders scattered across different directories. That's what makes Homesite's Virtual Directory setup so handy. The various files are listed in the appropriate Virtual Directory irrespective of their real location. Hence you can keep track of them and edit them via a single directory view (the project virtual directory).
Any chance we can get you to add Virtual Directories to our "Wish List"? (/me looks on hopefully)
Also, this old beta tester (Opera for more years than I care to admit and Eudora, among others -- yikes, I'm dating myself) just bought WB 2010 and hopes you won't mind my posting suggestions/requests as I continue to explore your editor.
PostScript: Just notice a much earlier thread with a similar "virtual" request. I've an alternate idea for a possible workaround: Allow the program to enable the use of Shortcuts (Windows). That way one could create a project folder, add "shortcuts" to the disparate files (thereby creating a complete list of all files for the project) with shortcut links that, when clicked, would access/import the real file. Just a thought.

We will note your idea as a suggestion with no strings attached. Such new concepts need to be approached carefully as we do not want to come up with another big and slow Dreamweaver and maintaining virtual lists of files could be consuming. Here is again another challenge that could push our software engineering minds to the limits

Ah, mind-ing one's limits can be a good thingKarlis wrote:We will note your idea as a suggestion with no strings attached. Best wishes for a happy and healthy new year.
