HTMLPad 2008 V9.5.0.104 Freezing Up

Post by dynocat »

Use this daily but today have had repeated instances of the program freezing. CPU usage is suddenly at 100% and I can't access anything in the software. I can go to other open programs, like firefox, Word, Excel and they work fine. Even closing the other programs does not free up HTMLPad. I am coding with the preview window open for quite a long time. Could that cause the problem?

Since moving "up" to 1.5G Ram a month ago, I no longer see problems like this and am stumped. Any ideas?

Funny, both times it happened I was thinking I should "save," but of course, I clicked one more time! Hah! That'll teach me to save oftener.

Hi there. Strange this should happen because this is one of the most stable programs I have used. I use WeBuilder now but used HTMLPad 2008 for about a year before upgrading (and never regretted it by the way) and always code with the preview window open. This shouldn't have anything to do with hanging or freezing as far as I can see. Are the files you are working on stored locally or on a network/external drive? Do you primarily use the Mozilla plugin for previewing? Is the hang replicable, that is, are you doing anything in particular when the software gags? Does it just 'do it' after being open for a while without you working on it? Usually when an application goes nuts and starts using lots of CPU cycles there is something specific happening, which is why I ask if you are doing anything in particular when it happens. Since your post implies it just started doing it today, I would also look for changes made since last time you used it. new AV software, new firewall, new this or that; anything can be relevant no matter how far-fetched it may sound.

Cheers

My apologies. It wasn't an HTMLPad Problem. Turns out it was a problem with a new firefox add-on (personas). Once I uninstalled that, no more problems.

I agree, Dave, I've used HTMLPad since maybe 2005 and never had a problem.
