video screensaver - white is displayed as light grey

Post by sebastian_g »

Hello,
I have a strange problem with a video as screensaver, maybe some could help me ...
I have set a movie (wmv) with much white in the background as a screensaver.
When the scrennsaver starts a strange thing happens:
The movie is too dark. White is displayed as light grey (235 instead of 255).
How is this possible? I also tested a mpeg file - same result.
Has anyone experienced the same? Any suggestions or even solutions?
I would really appreciate your help. My client needs to have the screensaver in white.

Hm. Sounds strange. I have never experienced anything like this. Can you test this on some other computer too? I suspect there is some problem with that particular computer.

hi karlis,
I tested on several computers and systems:
windows xp on a mac pro with parallels, the system i work on -> no problem (white is white)
windows xp on an imac with bootcamp -> no problem (white is white)
pc with win xp or vista, my clients system (tested on a few pcs) -> problem (white is grey)
more strange: a friend testet a softwear-demo of another company and had the same problem.
so perhaps it's sothing with the settings of the grafic-card or so but why this effect?
would it help if i send you some files to test an recreate the problem on your own?

We can try this, but frankly this is something very rare and specific because we have not had any similar reports from other users, so it is not a very common problem.

The video playback is provided by Windows built-in playback means so we have not even programmed the player, it uses system settings and drivers.
