- Do not create new topics for already reported problems. Add your comments to the existing topics instead;
- Create separate topic for each problem request. Do NOT post a number of non-related problem reports in a single topic;
- Give your topic a meaningful title. Titles such as "A question," "Bug report" and "Help!" provide others no clue what your message is about;

Spammers
Considering the number of spammers hitting this site recently it might pay for mods to start vetting potential board members - there can't be that many to deal with judging by how many use this board and how many sign up (the majority lately being spammers). One guy has posted 16 messages in all possible forums so could be using some kind of bot to do so. Putting a time limit on how many posts can be done in a certain amount of time could also reduce the impact these spam wankers have on the board.
Re: Spammers
I'm not sure our forum options allow that but I'll ask. Yeah, spammers have been a problem lately.

Re: Spammers
Yes, there has been a huge increase in the number of spammers registering and posting messages in the past week.
I have been going through and deleting a lot of these when I get time.
Aivars, I have noticed when I go into the Admin control panel to delete & tidy up, that the "Are you a spammer?" question has not been chosen and is still on "Select your answer"
Doing a new test register myself, it is a required field and must be answered, somehow they are bypassing this.

Re: Spammers
Is the forum software up-to-date? There are numerous add-ons to improve security, eg, alternative captchas, etc.
I would argue that all new users are assigned a 'New User' status, which means their posts have to be approved. Once their first post has been 'approved', their status is then set one notch up so they can post freely.
Its a lot more work for mods, etc, but keeps the boards clean. Again, there are add-ons for this, and phpBB works 'out of the box' to help support this model.

Edit: Just checked, and yes, it is up-to-date. Phew! I'll have a dig around then to see how the new users are being registered.

Re: Spammers
The number of spammers has now dropped back down to a more "normal" level.
I think the board was updated not long after I posted above as some things changed in the admin control panel, only noticed as the macro I had setup in the iMacros Chrome extension fell over as something on the screen had changed text.

Re: Spammers
That's correct - Karlis updated the forum software. We can't be certain that is the reason why there are less spammers, but hopefully the number of them will stay low.
