I really like this feature, I use it very often. 8)

My only problem is that renaming files is a little problematic. First of all the F2 key doesn't fire renaming like it should when a filename is selected, and also the Backspace and Delete buttons aren't treated seperately when a filename is being edited.

Looking forward to having these fixed in the next version

I'm wondering if this FTP upload crash is unique to some users/setups or is it a known bug in the software, as I really can't make use of the software as for that feature only
I do a lot of online editing, which requires open/save files from the remote server. having the FTP save function works as it feels like and hang the software, makes your work very fragile...

There seems to be no much response about this issue, nor a fix in the update.
If it's something that occoures only on some situations, I would like to know that. Please.

Thank you

Reuvenm, I found that having another FTP client (FileZilla, WS-FTP Pro, IE, etc.) caused the problems. If WeBuilder is the only FTP client that I have running then I've had zero issues.

Even when I forget, open another client, and WeBuilder won't save a file then all I need to do is close the other client and re-establish the FTP connection in WeBuilder. After that, I can save the opened file without loosing any of my work.

I'm running WinXP-Pro.

I hope this helps.

Andrew

I love the FTP feature in Rapid PHP. It's the first free or inexpensive program I've found with a built-in FTP feature I found worth using. I just started, and here are my two small initial criticisms:

1. I almost gave up on it at first because it was opening all my files double-spaced and there's no feature to remove blank lines. It turned out to be because I was transferring them in ASCII by default rather than binary. That's happened to me with other programs, so it may not be your program's fault, but perhaps you can add some text somewhere to make it easier for new users to figure out what's wrong when that happens.

2. For the open from FTP menu, I would like to have an option to set one of my sites as the default and automatically connect to that one when I open the dialogue. I only really use one server, so that would save me a lot of extra clicks.

I'm very happy with the product so far! I'm pretty sure I'll be buying it when the trial's up.

There are news. Many of your suggestions such as one-click save and upload, more robust cancel, CHMOD, support for FTP proxy and many others will become available very soon.

SFTP is included in the roadmap for the version 2007 which could become available in 2007, or if we are lucky, maybe earlier.

Karlis,
I absolutely love the FTP feature. It's so easy to edit almost directly on the server.
I would like to enhance the features though:

- What about an option to automatically connect to a certain ftp Server given in the list ?
- Is it possible to open more than one file or even all files in a ftp folder?

People usually don't understand how I can effectively work with a non wysiwyg editor. I just tell them that I effectively work because I use WeBuilder!

great news karlis. thank you.

I have another request for the 2007 version... 'save current folder as FTP'. for instance, when I'm nine folders deep in a site and it's a point I reference regularly, I'd like to be able to save my current location as an ftp shortcut, or FTP 'site'.

Tell me if that makes no sense.

Thank you and thanks for all the new features.

Again, I like the feature but would like the ability to upload just ONE file or pick and choose, as opposed to the whole directory. I HATE having to use a separate FTP program for this.......

For things I do regularly, it would be ideal to allow remote files to be edited within a project.

For instance, you would still have the local/ftp folders defined in the project - but instead of working locally, you could work directly on the FTP. For devlopment servers this saves the time to upload every single local project file you've worked on.

Thanks,

-Elliott

EDIT
====
Addionally, FTP needs a tree-view - this, in my opinion is a necessity. Also, I know others have brought this up, but when I exit RapidPHP with FTP files open, I would expect them to reconnect and open when I come back to the program.

poor FTP

Post by kneighbour »

I find that the poor FTP features of WeBuilder the sinlge biggest reason not to use it!

I do all my PHP stuff live on the web - so I have to do an FTP connect for every single file I edit. This is VERY painful with WeBuilder! At least when you Open from FTP, you can open at the same folder each time. If not for that, there is no way I would use Webuilder at all.

What you need to implement is an FTP browser like almost every other PHP editor out there. ie like PSPad, Dreamweaver, Zend, etc.

 Hi Kneighbour, welcome to the forum.

Try View>File Browser then on the lower right corner of the file browser, you'll see the FTP button. Click on it.

You'll need to add FTP connections but from there you're good to go. It's the only way most of us ever connect to an FTP server in Webuilder. In fact, I'd forgotten there even was another way until you mentioned it. ;)

Much better!

Post by kneighbour »

Well, that is MUCH better. It is funny I never found that option. WeBuilder is almost usable now..

I hate to be picky, but once you connect to the FTP site, you have no idea what site you are on. Even the file tab and title bar are no help. All it says is "FTP::nameoffile.php". What FTP?? It is not unusual for me to work on 3 or 4 sites at the same time.

Moving the mouse over the file tab does show you the full filename (including the FTP site), but it could be a bit easier.

But MUCh better.....thanks for the tip

k,

the file/path/title bar request is a known request. We're a greedy bunch around here so all must wait...

It seems that these things have been said before, but I have to echo them as they are important:
- Tree view for FTP
- Ability to upload any file to FTP

There's no shame in simply copying Dreamweaver's implementation of FTP features, and I have to say that the FTP handling in RapidPHP is the only thing stopping me leaving Dreamweaver.

Didn't spot the save to file and FTP, lucky I saw http://forums.blumentals.net/viewtopic.php?p=4179#4179
