Program Protector will not work with Internet Explorer and Outlook Express Windows XP won't let to protect them, assuming that program protecting files is trying to corrupt them. This is unfortunately fault of Microsoft Windows XP FPS (File Protection System), which doesn't allow uset to freely operate with files by making its own corrections.

There is a workaround however. You can delete original (unprotected) file from cache (folder where Windows stores file backups) in otder to prevent it restoring the original (unprotected) file. To do this:

1) Click Start -> Run, enter "c:\windows\system32\dllcache" and click OK. Cache folder is opened.

2) Locate "iexplore.exe" and delete it. This will delete Windows backup of
the file, so XP won't be able to restore it.

3) Immediately after that use Program Protector to protect Internet Explorer.

4) After a while some dialogs will appear Warning that unrecognized versions of files have been found.

You must click Cancel (when Windows tries to restore original files).

Click Yes (when it asks are you sure to keep unrecognized files).

5) Now everything should work fine.

You can also use this shareware, which allows you to edit or bypass the file protection. Download at this site:

There is no problem with Program Protector version 2.0. Upgrade from version 1.0 to 2.0 is free for registered users.

I had to delete iexplorer.exe and rename the one in program files before I could protect Internet Explorer. Now works well (I am using ver 2.01)
