Lost application data

Post by andrispp »

I reinstalled RapidPHP.
But at first I made backup of C:\Documents and Settings\AndrisA\Application Data\Blumentals\ directory, which I thought I will be able to copy back.

When I did that and launched newly installed RapidPHP, it overwrited this directory with it's own default files.

Now all my code snippets, library and settings are lost.

What to do ?

If you made a backup of the Blumentals directory, cant you simply put the files back? You should have a collection of .ini, .xml and .dat files. Simply put these back in their original places.

If you've not got these files, then there is no means of recovery.

As I said - I did that, but when I launched RapidPHP it overwrited those files with it's own default files.

I tried to use some file recovery programms, but they didn't work (could find anything).

If you close RapidPHP (now its installed) and overwrite the files with the files you took when you did the backup, then start RapidPHP again, does it overwrite them once more?

Or do you no longer have the backup files?

I don't have them anymore :( (I was stupid enough to move not to copy them back).

Oops. Then no, they cannot be recovered. Sorry.

The program reads the files on startup. So if on the startup there were the new files, it read those. Now when you closed the program it simply saved what had been loaded.

:!: Always when updating settings files, please make sure that the program is not running. It is true for many other programs as well.
