"the file .....\prev~.htm cannot be found..." Grrr
Hi - I upgraded to v7.4 recently and now I am extremely often getting the most annoying message "the file .....\prev~.htm cannot be found. Please check the location and try again."
This was already annoying in v7.0 but is much more frequent (and thus also much more annoying!) with v7.4 now. I tried to define the temp. location in preferences, but that didn't help.
Please get rid of that pop-up! I know that this refesh problem is not a major issue and it is usually fixed by itself after the next refresh, but it is that alert-popup that stinks! It interrupts the work flow and one has to click it away. Sometimes I have as much as ten such popups, they often appear faster than I can click them away!
If this doesn't get fixed soon, this will become a show stopper for me, i.e. I will have to start looking for some alternative HTML-editor...

Whats your operating system and browser version?
I know of the prev~.htm file issue, but not that it generates pop-ups. It should just display in the preview window, eg:
What files are you creating - html, php, etc.
What program are you using - WeBuilder?

No - the alert reads:chrisjlocke wrote:Do you get the "Page cannot be displayed" HTML page (as per my screenshot) too, or just a popup?
The file /C:/<path_of_html_file>/prev1~.html cannot be found. Please check the location and try again.
[OK]
The preview window (or rather part of the window) remains untouched in that situation, i.e. still shows the previous content. Not like in your screen shot, that is.
Not always, but about every third save or so. And if it comes up and one does not immediately react and clicks [OK] to stop this, then there is one popup after the other appearing all stacked on top of each other (about one popup per second), which one all has to click away.chrisjlocke wrote:And it always does it?

Quick possible solution: Use FireFox preview instead of IE preview.
Though some users have experienced this, I have *never* experienced the refresh problem... how can I fix it?
It seems that the IE7 is generating the pop-up. I will check whether the pop-up can be turned off. You can check on your side whether it is possible in IE to turn off this kind of message box.

No - one can't in IE7. My guess is, that this is some race condition, something like that the browser is already started with the "URL"/filename while the file is not yet fully written plus closed (and flushed or whatever is necessary to make it visible to the browser) and hence can't find it where expected.Karlis wrote:...

The interesting part is that the preview file is already written. The only possibility could be that you are using split-screen mode with very frequent refresh interval. Maybe you can try setting this to 10 seconds or longer. and tell us what happens. I have IE7 also on one of my PCs, but can not see this problem.
The timer *was* already set to 10 seconds. I changed it to 20 but the effect appeared again (though of course less frequent).
I have changed the browser setting to "Associated" in the meantime (BTW: what is an "Associated Browser" anyway - is that the system's default browser?). "Associated" seems to produce this effect a bit less often than Internet Explorer and it doesn't bring up the alert-box, but rather yields a page reading "This program can not display the webpage".
That's at least less anoying than having to chase these popups.
