shareware time limit easily defeatd

Post by Bletel »

Shareware time limit is easily defeated if someone deletes StartDate registry key. Trial will start again from begining over and over

Can something be done about this????

99.5% of the screensaver users do not know what is registry, so this is not a big issue. And those who are advanced users will find a way around in any case.

If this worries you, probably you should distribute only demo version and allow full version to be downloaded separately upon purchase.

Though for most of us this is not an issue.

I hear some programmers say this, but its no so true anymore. Maybe in the win95 days. Today, many users are no longer afraid of the registry.

Anyway, I understand this is no priority, but please consider changing the name and location of the string.

StartDate is almost asking to be changed. So is having the key under ScreenSaver Factory and saver name.

I know no thing will stop a pro user, but making things less obvious is a great help.

Thank You.

Well, to some degree you might be right. I'll add this to the list.
