FTP Error: Address not available

Post by ljf4 »

I have been using WeBuilder 2007 happily for many months.

I just recently added a new FTP site and when I attempt to connect I get: 'FTP Error: Address not available'.

The ftp account is with Network Solutions. The host address is: 02ade43.netsolhost.com and the user id is: potom8%02ade43 (the format for both are dictated by Network Solutions and cannot be changed).

Particulars are:
- I have 4 other ftp sites I access with WeBuilder without any problems.

- I can access the new ftp site with FileZilla without any problems.

- I even downloaded a trial of one of your competitors (SlickEdit) and I can access the ftp site without problems.

- There are no firewall issues.

I have examined the ftp registry key and all the information looks correct for that connection entry.

I don't want to abandon WeBuilder as I have grown quite attached to it, however this new ftp account will need file editing very frequently.

I have a sneaky suspicion that the '02ade43' part of the hostname might be causing a problem - but I can't say for sure.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Do they allow unencrypted FTP connections over port 21? Perhaps they might only allow SFTP connections over port 22, since it is more secure. That is something I would do. ;)

Thanks for your suggestion. Unfortunately it did not fix the problem.

I can imagine the "%" in the username giving problems. If you can you could try to set up an anonymous ftp accoun t on the server, this most often allows for an email as user name and no password. If you're then able to get in as anonymous then we know the ftp-username transfer of Webuilder is frux0rd..

webuilder doesn't support SFTP connections in the 2007 version. It will in the 2008 version.

So it might be the case that the software only supports port 21 and your web server only supports port 22.

Thanks, but I can connect to the same server in question with both Filezilla and a competing product, 'SlickEdit' (trial version), on port 21 with no problems and with the same login credentials.

I tried the suggestion of creating the anonymous ftp account, but unfortunately any new account name created is appended automatically with '%02ade43 ', i.e. temp%02ade43.

It appears I'm going to have to reluctantly move to a different editor, which is a darn shame.

Thanks.
