Colors used in different frames

Post by Blandine Catastrophe »

I would create animations from pictures edited in Paint Shop Pro 9, and I want to use them on the web. Then the size of the file must be taken in account. If I use in Paint Shop Pro 9 the command [Reduce to X colors...] to get a non-standard palette with however the setting «Web Safe», it creates a 16 colors image, save it as 16 colors, the colors belonging to the web-standard 256 colors palette.

My question: Must I use the same palette for each frame or can I get as much different palettes as I want

If you use single palette for all frames (global palette) the file size will be reduced, however the quality will be reduced also.

If you choose to have separate palette for each frame (by default), the quality will be better, but the file size will be greater.

Using single palette for all frames is recommended if all frames are very similar in terms of colors. E.g. if all frames display red text on white background, it would make sense to have single palette.
