WeBuilder 2007 to 2008, lost project settings

Post by Addison »

I realize the WeBuilder 2008 is only a release candidate, but I just upgraded and found that my project settings are gone. I must admit that I followed the wrong directions for transferring my settings -- I used the ordered steps here:

http://www.blumentals.net/webuilder/faq ... pd_upgrade

I should have read more carefully...

It did work, however, in that everything else was saved -- FTP, preferences, etc...

I have access to my 2007 installation via backup. Is there any way to import my old projects?

Thanks,
Addison

replace the projects.ini in
C:\Documents and Settings\YOUR USER NAME\Application Data\Blumentals\WeBuilder\settings

with the one from your backup.

I had the same problem when I installed the RC. Not sure why. Also can't get my snippets to load yet, even after replacing the XML file. bizarro.

Unless you have performed an uninstall, the settings should be left intact.

Thanks, guys. I did a system restore and reinstalled without uninstalling 2007 and all is well. Is it safe to uninstall WeBuilder 2007 now, or should I hang on to it for a while?

If you want to uninstall the version 2007, you should perform the settings export in version 2007 and then import them in version 2008 (just click Options -> Export Settings in 2007 and follow instructions.

If you do not want to mess with settings export, you will have to leave the version 2007 installed (or delete the WeBuilder 2007 folder manually - it will do no harm as all the files and registry entries left behind are used by version 2008 as well).

Karlis, you might want to make the upgrade instructions a little clearer on this. http://www.blumentals.net/webuilder/faq ... pd_upgrade on step 4, it says to uninstall. I realize that may only be relevant to 2006, as it says on the top of that list. Is it? I assumed since the article is titled "How do I transfer settings from version 2007 to 2008?" that all would remain intact if I followed those directions. Could just be me but I think a little clarity would save a few headaches.
