For some reason, all of the file icons in the File Explorer (when viewing a project) have reverted to something new, making it hard to quickly determine which type of file it is. Here is a picture:

I'm running Windows 7 Pro and I have rebuilt the Windows icon cache already and rebooted but it didn't help. Any ideas how I can fix this?

Re: File Explorer Icons
Hi,
Does the problem happen only in WeBuilder (or the editor you actually are using, as you have not mentioned it)?
Maybe the default icons actually have been changed for the files you see in File Explorer?

Re: File Explorer Icons
I have the same problem with XP Pro now & then, icons randomly change, not only for WeBuilder files but all sorts!
One thing you can try that sometimes works for me is to go Options -> Preferences -> Files -> Associations
The Deselect All and Apply, then Select All and Apply again.
May even need to restart Windows after then.

Re: File Explorer Icons
The issue only happens in Webuilder. The icon is the same for file folders and every type of file.

Thanks for the tip...but sadly it didn't fix the issue. FrustratingMikeyB wrote:I have the same problem with XP Pro now & then, icons randomly change, not only for WeBuilder files but all sorts!

do you have any third-party themes or software that changes icons or standard Windows elements? I have seen a similar thing where a 'tweaking' program was used to strip arrows from shortcuts and the collateral damage was the icon cache kept getting corrupted. I'm not saying this is what is happening, just trying to gather information to better assess what is going on there.
I also use Windows 7 and have noticed some icon instability with it, for example showing default (unknown file) icons in the start menu, even when the program's icon is valid and available. Setting it via the right-click properties still doesn't set it properly, which makes me think something is awry with the icons anyway. This could also be a symptom of that.

Re: File Explorer Icons
Thank you! Your post got me thinking. Right before this issue started I installed an update to SugarSync. By default, SugarSync adds an overlay to folder icons to show if they are current in the backup. I just changed that setting in SugarSync to off and restarted everything. My icons are back to normal!
Thank you for the tip!

Re: File Explorer Icons
Damn it ... I have had problems with icons in the past when "utilities" mess up system icons. Windows should put some protection and not allow this. The worst part is that we often seek for a bug in our software (spending some precious time) in such cases just to discover that weirdly it is actually not our fault
