Importing old setting

Post by mattyk »

Just upgraded to webbuilder 2014 from 2011 but have lost all my old settings. I copied the old folder to my desktop just in case then unintalled (but keeping the option to save settings). Is there anything I can do?

Cheers

Are you really sure that you lost all settings? Note that toolbar and side panel layouts are not transferable, most other settings are. Since both versions use the same files and registry keys, it should be quite impossible to loose all settings. Unless you have had installed old version as portable copy and new one as regular (or vice versa).

Don't think I installed it as a portable version. I've lost all my ftp setting as well as my library snippets. When I click import settings it asks for "szip" - but I can't see this in my old setting folder. ah well.

Did a bit more digging after noticing something else odd.

When I install I need to put the admin password in.

Then I close webbuilder, open and all the settings I made were gone including setting that come with WB2014 such as the files to change colour scheme.

Turns out that I have two profiles set up

C:\Users\Administrator\AppData\Roaming\Blumentals\WeBuilder\settings\ and C:\Users\ME\AppData\Roaming\Blumentals\WeBuilder\settings\

and that most of the settings from the admin weren't in my user profile. I'm using vista.

I copied across the folder from admin to ME and all works.

I also tried copying my old setting folder into my profile and that brought back my FTP details but lost my library stuff.

I don't really want to copy all of my old settings across and loose all the new stuff from 2014 so I copied 2014 back. My question is: Is there one file in my old settings folder that I can copy across to the new one that would bring back my FTP settings. I'm happy enough to re-create my library but digging all the old FTP passwords out is annoying.

Cheers!

FTP settings are in registry under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Karlis Blumentals\Common\BuiltInFtp\Connections. I suppose you would need to log in as administrator, export this key with all subkeys and values, log in as yourself and then import the exported key.
