WeBuilder 2008 RC Inspector - support in browsers

Post by garethjmsaunders »

I notice in the Inspector tab in WeBuilder 2008 (Version 9.0 (9.0.0.87)) that it shows which browsers the CSS works in, e.g. IE5, IE55, etc.

However it only offers FF1 (Firefox 1.0) and not FF2 (Firefox 2.0). Will Firefox 2.x and even 3.x be offered in the future? Incidentally, you may already know this but officially the abbreviation for Firefox is Fx not FF, see http://kb.mozillazine.org/Talk:Spelling_Firefox.

Similarly, Netscape 6 and 7 are shown, do you have plans to include 8 and 9? Although Netscape 8 is shown in the drop-down but not in the summary at the foot of the inspector tab.

And how about Safari 3 now that it's available for Windows?

FX 2.0 = FX 2.5 (more or less) so there is no need for that, as soon as official FX 3.0 is released we will try to add the FX 3.0 spec as well.

Offtopic: As a web developer I am happy that finally all web browsers support most of the important style rules, so it is getting better with every browser ;)

But I don't see FX2.x listed at all, am I missing something?

FX 2.0 is FX 2.x, I mean 2.0 = 2.1 = 2.5 etc.

No, you are correct. There's no indicator for FF2's css support.

That's what I meant

Thanks Cary, that's exactly what I mean: FF1 (FX1) appears to be listed but FF2 (FX2) isn't.

In other words the Inspector appears to be somewhat out of date compared with (some of) the current array of modern browsers, namely Firefox, Netscape and Safari.

FX1 was released in 2004
NS6 was released in 2000
NS7 was released in 2002

IE8 is going to be huge. I can't wait till M$ drops their support for IE7 rendering in favor of standards support.

Ah, I see, something is not yet done, thus you can not see FF2. It will be added in one of the future updates.
