the only reason i "bump" this request is because i seriously go to use it 4 times a day. this request is by no means a make-or-break for me, but if there is one feature that i do truly wish for, this would be it.

to clarify - the feature i'm "begging" for is a right-click/context option for "close all but this tab"...so there would be three options total in the context menu of a tab on the tab bar. 1)close this tab 2) close all tabs 3)close all tabs except this one. number 1 & 2 are there already....

again this is an amazing product and v2007 is so sweet...

great job devs!

I would love a CLOSE icon

Post by Brian in NY »

Hi Karlis,

I came to this forum specifically to request a CLOSE icon on the toolbar, then noticed this thread. Unless I am missing something, right now I must go to the FILE menu, all the way down to CLOSE/ CLOSE ALL. That is a pain in the neck, since I find myself opening and closing files/tabs 50 times a day. The opening is easy, but the close seems unnecessarily awkward.

I don't know that ALL BUT ME would matter to me, since I am constantly working with an HTML tab in conjunction with a CSS tab .. I would want to keep both open, close the rest.

I am about 2-3 weeks into WeBuilder, and love it.

Thanks.

Ctrl+W = Close the current doc
add a keyboard shortcut, say, ctrl+shift+w to the 'close all' function and you're good to go.

also, 'load a list of files' from the tools menu may be of interest to you.

side note: why isn't the 'load/save a list of files' in the file menu along with the other open/save commands?

How do I create and edit a file list (flist) ?

Post by Brian in NY »

Thanks, Will.

Now that you turned me on to the OPTIONS/KeyboardCommands, I have made Close (which was unassigned) Cntrl+F2, and Close All (also unassigned) Shift+Cntrl+F2. The Cntrl+W was taken .. "Select CSS Properties."

This product just keeps getting better!

:? BUT .. I looked into the 'Load A List Of Files" you mentioned .. sounds interesting. But how do I create and edit such a list (flist) ?

Thanks again.

you're welcome.

to create a list... open some files that you want to open together in the future. go to tools>"save a list of open files". that's it. It's a simple text file with paths to files. If you want to edit it, just open it up in webuilder (the .flist file).

yes, it should be there if only for the sake of completeness.

The context menu already has:

Close {me}
Close All

----

so Close All but Me certainly belongs there as well.

You can also right click on the tab, you do not need to go to the file menu.

also, don't be afraid to reassign a key that is already assigned. the idea of being able to customize it is that you can make it fit to your needs.

CTRL-W is industry standard for Close Window. You could define a different key for CSS Properties, if you think it is something you will use enough to justify having a dedicated key for it.

Basically for anything you use a zillion times a day, make a key shortcut for it, for everything else the menu is fine. Don't worry about the predefined keys, think of them as suggestions and feel free to redefine things to suite your taste.

Add another vote from me.

I have found that once you have this option it becomes very popular. I use it in PhpED all the time now. It's the fastest way to clean up the number of open pages without loosing the one you're working in.
