Copy/paste problem

Post by OmahaJohn »

I have been out of the loop in regards to these forums for quite some time so hopefully this isn't a repost. However, with the newest version, on Vista SP1 (I think it might have broke with SP1 install), I can no longer copy/paste. It seems like it gets the data to pase when I copy, and then when I actually paste it seems to work for just a tiny second -- like it's doing the right thing -- but nothing shows up. I've tried pasting into Notepad also. Copy/paste does not work copying from Webuilder to Notepad, but Notepad to WeBuilder seems to work fine.

If I open WeBuilder fresh and copy, the first paste seems to work fine once in a while -- the text is duplicated appropriately, maybe half the time? Even if it works the first time, however, it seems to paste an empty string in, after that first time. I.E. if I highlight data, copy, highlight something else, and paste, it erases whatever I had highlighted. It does this both for the ASP file I'm working on, a PHP file I wrote a few months ago, and the default HTML document that WeBuilder makes when you start it for the first time.

...and it's been sitting idle and open for quite a while (Since my last posting), and now I go in and copy/paste seems to be working just fine. I'll keep you updated. First thing I tried was not spamming different formatting elements (so, for example, the text was green because it was a tag, and I stayed INSIDE the tag name to copy from). Pasting worked fine. So I spanned colors of text, and it still worked fine. I spanned paragraphs of text and varying controls, starting both at the start of formatting for a tag and in the middle, ending at the end, middle, or start of the closing tag. Everything looks great. I'm stumped.

If this happens again and if it starts to happen often, please report. Thanks!

p.s. How was your Vista SP1 update? Was everything fine? I would like to update my PCs, but I'm kind of reluctant, don't want to break anything

Create an image of your install first! Something like Acronis Disk Image would be best, but there is free software available.

I'm having this exact same problem with Vista SP1 and WeBuilder 2008.

This started happening on my old computer that was upgraded to SP1 and is happening now on my new computer that was installed with an integrated SP1 in the install. Running Vista 64bit.

It's very intermittent, sometimes copy and pasting is fine, othertimes it doesn't work. (happens also with cut). Most of the time though, when I go to paste something, it doesn't paste (or actually pastes a blank if I'm overwritting something). This happens with Keyboard Shortcuts and the toolbar buttons. I've gone into the clipboard pane and the stuff I've copied shows up there, but doesn't paste correctly, sometimes even with the manual paste button in the clipboard window. Usually after doing that once or twice it works.

Hrm, yeah, it's still happening here for me, and this computer is a clean install as of about a week and a half ago.

What's really weird is that it's intermittent. Sometimes it works, and other times it doesn't. I can't seem to narrow down what event causes that change though.

I can certainly help with any information or troubleshooting you need.

I am running Vista 64bit btw, not sure if that might be causing issues.

Thanks

I do not think it is the Vista. Most likely it is some other software that accesses or monitors the clipboard. What do you have running in background?

I know later versions of Word monitors the clipboard when running so this may be influencing things.

Main programs that I have running on a regular basis are Outlook 2007, Trillian Astra, Firefox and IE7.

I do also use Photoshop CS3, SmartFTP, Word 2007 and Remote Desktop running on occation, but not all the time.

I'll do some testing without any programs running and see if it's resolved. If that works, I'll try and isolate what program may be causing it.

One of my devs is having this but he can not provide any useful info either because it happens rarely and only on one of his PCs.

Yeah, It's certainly a weird issue, I haven't been able to nail it down to any particular program being open causing it. It's actually more like it just stops working after a while of having the program open.

Thought I'd bring this topic up again since I'm still having troubles with it. I've pretty much nailed it down to using a 64bit Windows environment (both Vista SP1 and Windows 7).

Basically, after a while using the program, copy and paste seems to stop working. I'll copy something, and go to paste it, and nothing. If I'm pasting over something, it will actually just delete what was selected, so it's seeming copying a "blank" piece of text. Additionally, the clipboard inspector will not update. This happens with doing CTRL+C, rightclick copy, or the copy button on the toolbar. It seems to only be an issue when copying something from Webuilder, and only starts happening after the program has been running for a little while.

I've experienced this issue on 3 different computers so far running either Windows Vista x64 SP1 or Windows 7 (various builds).

From what I can tell, it's NOT affected by other running programs. I'm wondering if there's some kind of memory issue in 64bit environments?

I am running version 9.5.1.105

Maybe you can try turning OFF the extended clipboard (there is a button with red no sign). When this is done, WeBuilder does not monitor clipboard and keeps clipboard activity to minimum. The clipboard monitoring has caused problems in the past, so we introduced this option just recently, probably this would help.

I've actually tried turning off the clipboard monitoring and it doesn't change anything with the issues I'm having.

Is this something that could just be related to 64bit?
