Need autosave

Post by johnmcglaughlin »

Webuilder has been hanging on me lately and has been causing various degrees of frustration. Paypal seems to be related to the problem. It would be of great relief to have a programmable autosave feature similar to (gag) MS office products that would save work every 2, 5, 10 minutes to tmp location.

Not a solution to this request, but just thought I'd also point out that although the default key combination for save is CTRL+S, its easy to modify this to another key, eg, F12. Pressing one key is easier than two. Good habit to therefore smack that key whenever you've made some major changes.

I am so used to Ctrl + S that I sometimes do it instinctively when reading web pages or filling out web forms, bringing up a save dialog. Talk about a nerd!

@johnmcglaughlin

You mentioned Paypal before. In what circumstances does it hang for you? I have just been tweaking one of my sites and setting it up for both donations, online payments and shopping cart with Paypal but at no point did I notice any untoward behaviour. I am interested to know where Paypal was inducing the hang, as this could give us a clue as to what is causing it on your machine.

I just laughed so loud I scared my goldfish. I do the exact same thing. I do it right here in this forum a lot when I mean to "submit". Gmail is nice enough to intercept it and actually saves a draft of your email. there is hope for our kind (nerds).

So yes I TRY to save regularly myself...

However it seems that the forum is putting the ownership on myself, while it should be a simple matter to push the file to a .sav, should even be able to make use of the .bak routing on a timer (BUT .bak files are very convenient and should not be used for the auto save)
