Crashes and mysteries

Post by davenz »

Hi guys

two issues, the first of which I think has been covered but I can no longer find it.

I am using the latest build of WeBuilder and having issues with the File Explorer. In Combined View, I can't browse out of the root of my site's folder. I have all my web sites in a folder called, wait for it, My Web Sites; every time I try to surf out of that folder using the built-in File Explorer window in combined view, the bottom panel shows what files are in the actual folders but the folders shown in the top panel don't move. In the screenshot example below, the flies listed in the preview window are actually on my desktop, so that panel is showing my desktop contents while the top panel is stuck on the sites root folder. Strange.

If I use List View, then things operate as expected.

If I use the Tree View, however, the folders 'jump' back to the root folder - no matter where I was in List View - and if I click on the 'Up One Level' icon, WB crashes and blows to bits. (See second shot). I cannot navigate anywhere in the top view outside of my site's root folder. When I try to go up one folder level in the File Explorer I can crash WB every time.

It doesn't matter if I have any files open or not.

The second issue is that the CSS file available from the link below (because this forum wont allow any attachments that I try to attach) crashes WB if I try to preview by any means (horizontal, vertical or plain preview). What is in this file that is causing it to crash WB? The crash itself is non-verbose; WB just disappears - gone. Can someone please download and try that file and see what happens on your machine?

Thanks

I just previewed the print.css file and it previewed fine with the latest version of WeBuilder (9.3.0.101) in horizontal, vertical and plain preview. No crashes here and everything shows up fine, even the broken javascript image.

Thanks for reporting that. Interesting; it tanks completely on my Vista machine.

Edit:

It only crashes when using the IE preview mode; the Mozilla plugin handles it fine, except for that java error. I am using IE 8 beta as well so that may have something to do with it.

Further testing reveals that if I use the mozilla plugin to preview the file, then swap to the IE plugin, it works as expected. Exit the software and try previewing with IE right away and it crashes. Again, switching to Mozilla allows it to be previewed in all views, but exiting and re-opening the software must 'reset' something and it crashes with IE again until Mozilla is used.

Still further, it is the applet issue that is causing the crash. Remove the word 'applet' from that first array and the file previews fine however it is viewed; simply pasting 'applet' (sans quotes) back into the page with IE preview enabled crashes WeBuilder. Some kind of rendering bug is going on there.

Anyone else?

I tested it using IE7 and Win XP Pro SP3, by the way.

1) Send in the automated error report, fill the requested fields with details. No crash should have happened (and does not hapen on our test computer either), it just should not let you go upper silently.

2) It seems that you have set My Web Sites as root folder in Folder Options of File Explorer (or are in a project mode). You can not go upper than your root folder. If you set your own root, it will be the top folder you will be able to access. Click on the folder icon with red check-mark to reconfigure your settings.

Furthermore the word applet in your CSS causes the problem. And we can not fix it, because the problem is that either Java or IE crashes and brings WeBuilder down (WeBuilder integrates with IE to display the preview field).
