Modified program/ini files and upgrading

Post by syrupcore »

I'm not sure if the language definition files change in the data directory between major upgrades. If they don't it'd be handy to have them backed up with Options>Export Settings. I uninstalled 2007 and forgot to grab some of my edited files. Related or possibly alternatively, I'd love to see a feature where it checked the user directory first for the .ini file and if not found, loaded the one from the program directory.

For me it was some modified css/js ini files as well as my templates. Not sure how many people edit these so I realize I may be alone here...

Thanks,
Will

upgrading to 9.3.101 I "lost" all of my language file changes as well as custom colors and templates. I quote lost because I backed them up and will restore them in a sec but I'd really love to see this changed.

I'm still a fan of: When I change my colors, language definitions, templates or whatever stuff that normally lives in the /program files/ folder, the new settings should be saved in appdata (manually or automatically) and when the program launches, it should check there first. But don't really care how it happens, just an idea.

At the very least, a message in the "export settings" dialog should let users know that you may also need to back up your colors/templates....

crap. my custom colors are entirely gone. not even sure what I should have backed up. thought it was colors.ini but those are just the default colors for css/websafe/visibone/... I haven't upgraded my other machine yet. can some one tell me what to back up so that I can recover my custom colors? These were just changed via preferences>colors, not custom hscripts.

Only place I know of for the colours is in the Windows Registry, at least that's how I've got mine backed up.

I've got a copy of the registry from HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Karlis Blumentals\WeBuilder\ and I think the colours are in Pargers from there.

Haven't played with it for a while, but I was creating some software to backup files and registry legs. I'll give myself a poke to finish it before Karlis adds it to the software! ;)

haha. no no, beta testing implies losing files in and of itself, right? :)

thinking about moving this to support instead of requests. If there are settings you can set in the software's own preferences dialog they should be backed up with the menu item that says "backup settings", amiright? I mean, if I wanna go and hack language definition files, I reckon that's my own problem. But if it's editible from the the preferences dialog, it orta be backed up (or instructions given on how to go about it manually).

Am I the only one nerdy enough to use the custom code coloring feature only to watch it disappear after any minor update? perhaps. my nerdiness has been outed before. ;)
