Weird wrap behaviour

Post by davenz »

Hi guys. Thanks for the new version, it seems a bunch of stuff has been implemented and a lot of bugs fixed.

I have noticed something weird and while it isn't a show-stopper it is getting annoying the more I encounter it. In previous builds, when typing a line in the code editor window, I could simply keep typing (with word wrap on) and the sentence would continue as per usual on the next line. If a word was too big for the space near the right-hand margin, it simply 'jumped' to the next line and started there. In other words, if I was typing a 10 letter word and only 8 spaces were left, it would wrap to the next line automatically once the 9th character was typed. Even on this forum, in the text box I am typing in, putting the cursor between the end of a line and the right margin and hitting the space bar results in the cursor dropping to the next line, before the first letter. This is standard word-processor and text-input behaviour. However, if editing a line in WeBuilder 2008, 9.5.0.104, in certain editing scenarios spaces are inserted in the 'gap' left by the wrapped word. It doesn't actually put a corresponding space in the actual text in the preview window, at least not right away, but it is annoying having to 'fill' that area with spaces if I want to put a space between the left margin and the first character in the line. If I do that at the moment, spaces are put at the end of the line above this one until it is 'full'; only then can I edit as usual. See the attached picture to (hopefully) see what I mean.

Like I said, not a big deal but certainly different behaviour than the last build and to be frank I liked that way a lot better than this one.

I also notice that my FTP connections take a lot longer to connect; usually I edit a page the right-click on it in the file explorer pane and choose 'Upload to FTP' from the menu. My previous versions would take about 2 seconds to connect, arrange the directory structure and transfer would commence; now I do the same procedure and the dialog sits there 'connecting' for at least 20 to 30 seconds before doing the directory structure bit. File upload speed is the same as far as I can tell but the 'handshaking' part of it is much slower on _all_ my host's servers (different servers on different hosts).

I do not run any third-party firewalls or other security-related or network manipulation software; this FTP behaviour is only since I upgraded to this build.

On the whole though, this is still by far the best software I have used. Not that my testimonial means much, but there it is anyway.

You need to state what was your previous version. No changes were done in this area from the last update.

My previous version was whatever the version number before this one was; I always update when an announcement is made here.

While I didn't spefifically check for this behaviour in any previous versions, I discovered it within minutes of first using this build; I use the editor almost every day and I am certain I would have come accross it in all the time I was using the last build.

Nothing may have been changed 'in this area' but this is different.

Hm, it is strange because nothing related to word wrap was changed in the last release, in fact, nothing has been changed in the last 4 or so updates.
