Problem with prompt when file is saved

Just downloaded the evaluation today and I'm really impressed!

One thing that would stop me getting the full version is the auto prompt when someone else saves the same file.
At the moment if someone saves the same file, I don't get a prompt to tell me that it has been modfied elsewhere unless I move off the file and go back onto it using the tabs at the bottom.

It really should either tell me as soon as the other user modifies it or when I try to save the file. If I save the file without this prompt coming up it wipes the other persons changes.

Is there something I've missed? Help would be appreciated as I would like to get the full licence.

Indeed the file is checked when you switch form another program or file. The question is - how can anybody else change the file on your computer while you are editing it? This prompt is for the purpose of preserving any changes you do to the file while using the other programs on your computer. It was not designed to implement version control.

If you work in multi-user environment, it is better to use version control system such as Subversion.

Proper version control is overkill for us as we all work in the same room. Checking files in and out and installing more software is a step too far. At the moment we use homesite and as soon as we save a file we get a choice to overwrite the other person's changes or not. We just quickly discuss what is for the best. If we all started using WeBuilder, we could all be making loads of changes to the same file and saving them without even realising.

This is a real shame for me as I've really got used to using WeBuilder and spent too long looking at other editors. I can't tell you how much I prefer this to other PC based editors!! I know you can't go changing features everytime someone suggests something but I'd imagine this is a feature quite a few people would need. This is quite common in most of the other editors I've tried including Visual studio. Is there any chance you might implement it in the future?

I'll think about this. If there is an easy solution, we might get this in. Probably we can do checking right when you hit save and are about to save the file giving you a choice to abort save operation and load version from disk or continue and save the file. Not sure whhether this is doable right now, but I'll check.

You will have to wait a bit as there is quite a long to do list right now. This might get implemented in a few months or so.

If you are planning to buy more than 2 or so licenses, I can try to escalate the importance of this matter.

Thanks - we are actually considering the 4 team license. Its a bit of a problem as I only have a couple of uses left on my license.

I know you are really busy but do you think it is likely that you will be able to implement it (even if it does take some time) Also, what do you tend to do about upgrades? Do we need to buy licenses every time there is an upgrade?

It will go like this - you click save and if the file is modified by somebody else, it asks whether you want to proceed with save. You can choose not to, so that you keep both your changes currently loaded in editor and the file stored on the disk. It is the best quick solution we could find.

So you get 2 choices? Choose to save over the other persons file or cancel the save. If you wanted to use the other persons changes you'd shut your file down without saving and re-open it. That would be great for us. Do you have any idea when this is likely to happen?

Maybe in a later build there could be an option to accept other persons changes so that you don't need to shut your file down. - Not a huge issue at all though! - the main thing is making sure that we don't save over each others work and not know about it.

Again - thanks for this. I should be able to convince my boss to buy it next week. I have a few suggestions for future versions (that I'll post in the other forum) but I'm still really happy with it.
