Jumping Cursor/Scrollbar is a pain!

Post by x3po »

Hey there,

I often use drag&drop with strg+click to copy some code from one part of my document to another without the need of using strg+c/str+v.
If i have long lines, and between 2 long line a shorter one, and i want to copy from the first long line to the other long line, the cursor/scrollbar jumps to the end of the short line, and it's really a mess to then move the mouse to the right side of the line i want to post that codepart to. If i habe a real long line i have it could be really painful, especially if you move the mouse a bit up and down so you end up being in another line, then maybe the game starts from the beginning.

I think Homesite is doing that job way better, the cursor stays at the position if i move the mouse over a shorter line and i'm painlessly able to copy that code to another position.

got what i mean?

p.s.: I have a screenrecord of that behaviour, i could email that to you, karlis, if you like.

I'd really love to have this issue fixed in the new WeBuilder Release!

In "Preferences/Text Editor/General" uncheck the "Constrain cursor to text" option.

Hello,

i know that option, thanks though. But i'm not happy with the results, as alot of whitespace could be placed in the documents when accidently typing with the cursor pointing in the middle of nowhere somewhere behind the last character of a line.

I do like the behaviour of Notepad++ or Homesite more, and i think that WeBuilder would really be even better with a more smoother cursor behaviour!

Best,

Any chances of getting this aggressive horizontal scrolling a little bit defused?

I don't wrap long lines, and when i scroll horizontal and try to copy&paste something an the end of a long line, sometimes it happens that i leave the line up or down, and webuilder scrolls to the last token of the other line then. So i have to scroll again to that part of the line that i wanted to edit.

in Dreamweaver when holding the left mousebutton, and beginning to c&p, it just doesn't forcefully scrolls the line - quite the opposite - it just stays there where it is, and i can painlessly do my job in that line, even though i loose touch with my mouse for that specific line.

This would be sooo cool for WB. You should try to get this up and running in WB!

Regards!

Why don't you just disable "Constrain cursor to text"? Then the scrollbar doesn't jump anymore.

But after that you have to push the "End" Key, if you want to point your cursor to the end of a line. I can live with that 8)

EDIT 1:
i know that option, thanks though. But i'm not happy with the results, as alot of whitespace could be placed in the documents when accidently typing with the cursor pointing in the middle of nowhere somewhere behind the last character of a line.
But why you should write in the middle of nowhere in your documents, even if it happens Ctrl+Z is your friend ;)

As I mentioned I disabled "Constrain cursor to text" and enables "Remove trailing whitespaces or tabs" ... for me this works like a charm.

EDIT 2:
Sorry, missed, that the "Constrain to text" feature was already mentioned. Maybe I don't get the facts of your request :|

The mouse and scrolling behaviour in DW is just a charm.
And i really don't like a blinking cursor in the middle of nowhere, so i really don't like that "Constrain cursor to text"-function!

I know, this is only makeup! But i'd love it!
