auto close quotes, brackets and square brackets

Post by XO39 »

Hi there,
I just downloaded a trial version of all blumentals software (HTMLPad, Rapid CSS, Rapid PHP and WeBuilder) and they are all great good software and I really like them.

anyway, there is a very important thing that I'm missing with these software set, that is the quote auto-close (single and double quotes), brackets auto-close (normal and square brackets)('', "", () and []).
and also, if that can be done, it is very important to auto-place the cursor between the opening and ending quotes and brackets ('|', "|", (|) and [|]) and auto skip the ending quotes and brackets when typing them again, so that no need to use the arrow button of the keyboard to skip them and typing them again won't duplicate them.

could that be done in a near future release?
if so, I think this is will be the best editing software out there. and -for sure- will be my main editor tool.

best wishes

:)

Hi,

This has been developed and will be released with next major version.
In current version there is support only for curly brackets: {}
Kind regards,

this is a great news.
also another feature that I much like in some others editors that is the ability to enclose selected text with quotes or brackets with out deleting the selected text and replacing it with the quotes or brackets.
I hope this feature will be developed and added in the same time as well because this is a very useful and important feature in any good editor. and I think blumentals should have it.

thanks :)

all the best.

greedy man! ;)

I have to agree though. I'm on a mac at home and have been using textmate a lot. It has this feature. You select a block of text and then type any language construct (", ', {, [...) and it wraps the text with the correct closing symbol and inserts the caret just after it. It's really handy.

Yes. it's really useful and in fact I got used to it.
I hope that can be added in the next major release.
