Slower File List After Update

Post by dustinb »

Hello,

I just downloaded Rapid PHP 2008. Have been using 2006 for long time. I like 2008 but one thing I'm noticing is the file list takes forever to update. i.e. I click a folder and the files come 1.....2......3......etc. I am using SFTP to map drives on remote servers via ssh/sftp. I think in 2006 there were options to not display date/size, I don't see these in 2008. Are there any other settings I can make to speed this up? I really want to use the new version but it's painful waiting for those files to appear.

Edit: Version is 9.4.1.103

Thanks,
Dustin

As I understand you are not using built-in SFTP, but a shell extension that integrates with Windows shell instead. Why don't you try using SFTP directly?

The Windows shell support was changed from 2006 to 2008 to improve compatibility and enable various highly requested features and it is also a bit faster, except in cases where some specific shell extensions are used.

Thanks for the reply. That's exactly right I was using a shell extension. I did try the built in sftp and it's definitely quick. I do like the combined view that the shell extension allows. After trying the shell extension again it seems to be pretty fast now. Maybe some network congestion the first time...? Anyway is there a way to turn off the display of date/time, file type, size? Seems I did this in 2006 but can't figure out how I did it.

Thanks,
Dustin

This was never there. You can see these details (for FTP/SFTP files), though, by using File -> Open from FTP / Save to FTP if you have a specific need. Side panel is more designed for a quick overview /file opening and less details.

Karlis,

I'm reviving this task. I really want to upgrade to 2010 but the folder lists when using an sftp connected drive is way slower than 2006. I don't want to use the integrated sftp since it doesn't display in combined tree format.

I think the difference is 2010 retrieves, size, file type, and modification date. 2006 doesn't seem to list this information, and really I don't need to see so I like that.

Created some videos so you can see the different yourself

2006: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xYJYK_4TCy8

2010: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1H9hKn5MD7k

Is there anyway to eliminate the extra file data (size, type, date) in the file explorer?

Thanks,
Dustin

Since most users do not use sftp-connected drive this is most likely not an issue there, but I will try to look into this. It was not intended to display also file size and date, it came automatically with the updated components.

I am not sure, though, thta not showing date and size would make it faster since internally the component still retrieves that data.
