Cannot insert more than 5 frames

I'm tring to create a new GIF using BMP images. It works fine with 5 images but blows up when I try to add a 6th (or more). The frame window starts scrolling rapidly and the system locks up. This happens whether I use a list of BMPs or put them in one at a time.
