PLEASE! return CSS semicolon auto-complete back

Post by point3d »

Yes, some people do not like it, some like to work in the DOS and norton-commander...
but why completely remove a useful feature?
Please add this as a option.

Thanks.
Thomas.

While it may be true that many don't like it.

However anyone writing CSS knows that in CSS a line is terminated with an ;

Almost every day I am writing 300+ lines of css.
I am still using WeBuilder 6, the best editor for css javasript html (for PHP I prefer Zend Studio) I have license for WeBuilder 7 but don't like it.

blumentals! How much will it cost, to restore the "semicolon auto-complete" as an option ? :)

Hi,

So far we have received some 3 requests for putting this as an option back when we changed this some 2 years ago.
Here are the posts talking about this feature:
http://forums.blumentals.net/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=1176
http://forums.blumentals.net/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=2988

Semicolon is inserted after single-value properties, if auto-complete is used to enter a css value.
So, I wonder if you type manually the value, then why adding semicolon is so hard.
There was a reasoning behind all this:
It is easier and faster to press semicolon on the keyboard than right arrow for example (especially while inserting many selector properties one by one in css).
So for you it is the other way? You prefer pressing Right arrow instead of the Semicolon?
What are the arguments that prevent you from using the latest version (the way it is now)?
Kind regards,
Gatis Avots

Hi Gatis.

I bought webbuilder 6 few years ago, it was the best editor for html-css.
After I bought the new version (webbuilder 7), I saw only one big difference, you have removed nice features of webbuilder 6.
Why? if someone likes "to press semicolon on the keyboard", give him this opportunity, as an option, but do not change the rules of work for all customers.

My main argument, that prevent me from using the latest version, that I write a lot of CSS everyday, and semicolon auto-complete (as in the webbuilder 6) helps me work faster and easier.

Thanks :)

Of course, "Right arrow" easier to find and work automatically .

Do you have a UI specialist in the office?
if yes, ask him about it.

I find when typing, that the semicolon is a lot closer and easier to reach than the arrows, it's on the main part of the keyboard just to the right of 'L', the arrows are out of the way particularly the right arrow.

MikeyB just simple test, for you and for blumentals team.
move your hands out of your keyboard, close your eyes, and then (3 times) find and press semicolon button and then (3 times) the arrows.
--------------------------------------
--------------------------------------
--------------------------------------
--------------------------------------
--------------------------------------
--------------------------------------
So what do you think about the results?

P.S
anyway the good software can provide this as an option.

Not really a true test, who codes with their eye shut and hands away from the keyboard for each character?
But I got the semi-colon 3 times.
Of course fiding the right-arrow in this test should be quicker as it's seperated from the main section of the keyboard, but that's not normal typing.

Try it typing normally, for me it's quicker to hit the semi-colon than reach over (okay it's not a long way) and hit the right arrow every time.

But this is all down to individual preference.

MikeyB

I am using auto-complete on 100% (my preferences - delay time 100 milliseconds)
But this is all down to individual preference.
100% :)
