Redo for snippets

Post by JSpav »

I am a Homesite refugee and after many years using it I came to count on keyboard shorcuts to reduce the number of times I had to thump the keyboard during a working day. WeBuilder is pretty good at assigning shortcuts too. One useful feature it lacks is Homesite's "Ctrl-q" as a repeat-last-action key. This is different from redo. If I have a series of keystrokes that wrap text with tags, saved as a snippet (library item), I can use the shortcut keystroke and then just highlight relevant text and Ctrl-q it all.

I have re-mapped redo as the Ctrl-q key in WeBuilder but it seldom reacts and certainly never to repeat snippets.

Here's an example. I mark up a lot of technical papers with footnotes. So I highlight the superscript number, say, in this case, 3, press Ctr-Alt-t and it calls the WeBuilder snippet with content:
<a href="#fn " title="See footnote .">3</a> Then it's simple to add the relevant footnote number. But I can't redo it.

In Homesite I could work down the text , highlight the footnote number and Ctrl-q them all. In WeBulder, I have to repeat the snippet shortcut. Ditto for wrapping paras with <p></p>. Ctrl-q (or whichever key you assign) is a heck of a lot easier in a 250 page document.

Maybe WeBuilder will do it, I'm just not using it properly. Are there any other Homesite refugees who have found out how to do this?

That aside, WeBuilder is a very good substitute and continues to surprise every day as I discover new functions and features.

Hi, and welcome to forum!

Well, I guess we need more discussion about this feature, feedback from others.
Although I think I understand what you mean, but I am not sure many would use it.

I wonder, why can't you repeat the last command using a short-cut..?

With next major version there will be also Macro recording/replaying feature. Maybe this will help you in the situation you described?

Hi .. sorry for not responding. I realise I didn't subscribe to this thread so I didn't see your answer.

My only reason for wanting something like CTRL-Q to repeat the last action is that it's dead easy. Rest your right thumb on CTRL and poke Q after highlighting relevant text. Means I don't need to take my hand from the mouse each time and hit key combinations.

It sounds lazy but I do this stuff all day and anything that stops my hands hurting by mid-afternoon is great.

However, I see that there is no flood of support messages so maybe I just need to get used to doing stuff a new way.
