WeBuilder 2011 (v11)

Post by gwmbox »

So will there be a 2011 or v11 soon? I recall reading it was not too far away some months back, so?

Most wanted to see in the next version is of course full CSS3 and HTML5 built in :)

Sorry to bug you with such a question but CSS3 and HTML5 have been around for quite a while now so.... where is the update?

Cheers

I am agree.
I recentlu purchase the software and i am waiting the new version because, now that IE9 is there, we need to do a lot of HTML5 and CSS3.
I hope this will be released soon :)

Hi,

Yesterday we had a project meeting, and have decided to postpone the release of the next major version for 4-6 weeks (mid May).
We apologize for the delay, but it had to be.
By then a beta version will be available for testing and the final release will come after 2-4 more weeks.
Thank you for your patience.

Kind regards,
Gatis

Then I assume we need to wait to upgrade? I'm using WeBuilder 2006.

Hi,

If you are using version 2006 and want to use the version 2010 already today, then you could upgrade to version 2010 now:
http://www.blumentals.net/webuilder/upgrade.php
Once the version 2011 will be out, you will receive a free upgrade (you should receive an upgrade email about this after the official release).
We have a policy to give free upgrades to those who purchased license for previous version up to 4-6 months before the new version is released.
If you have any further questions regarding this matter, please contact us through customer support form:

would be nice to have highlight syntax for .yml files (these files are getting popular in php framework like Symfony)
webuilder 2010 version 10.02 (10.0.2.118) is the best !!

This is very welcome news. Will you be releasing a list of proposed new features before the beta? I'd certainly be keen to see what's coming up, or at least what may be coming up. Or have you already published this somewhere and I've missed it?

I had another round of what-else-is-out there recently and checked out Dreamweaver CS4, Aptana 3 beta, TopStyle4, Netbeans and Notepad++ and my conclusion was that I still prefer WeBuilder 2010. If version 11 did nothing but update support for HTML5, CSS3 and perhaps even offered a way for me to code jQuery more efficiently (syntax highlighting, code hints) then I'd be more than happy.

I'm a bit like you Gareth, perennially searching for the perfect editor and every now and then trawling the web to see what has appeared since my last scrounge. Have you checked out CodeLobster? It appears to be mainly for PHP (which I don't do) but it does HTML and other languages about as well - it boasts excellent features and a nice environment. If I hadn't discovered WeBuilder I think I would use that. In many ways it is very similar. The new version of WeBuilder had better come out soon, or at least an idea of what is going to be in it or people might start getting antsy. I really hope it raises the bar and isn't just the existing software with new icons or a ribbon menu, which is what the last editor I used called a 'major' upgrade and wanted another 70 bucks for. That's why I changed and will again if that's what it turns out to be.

No, I hadn't come across CodeLobster. I'll give it a whirl. I'm impressed with the range of PHP frameworks and CMS packages that it supports, as well as jQuery. I use jQuery a lot, WordPress and have been looking into CodeIgniter and Joomla! recently too. $99 is a bit steep for me just now (2 year old twins and 11 weeks' old baby!) and I'm holding out to see what WeBuilder version 11 offers, I've been using it since WeBuilder 2005 (v.6.x) and nothing has come close for my requirements, although I do still use Dreamweaver CS4 for bits and pieces.

Hi,

Thanks for your interest and patience.

There is not a comprehensive list publicly available, but some of the major thing coming are:
-Support for HTML5, and updated CSS3 references
-Support for JavaScript and PHP frameworks jQuery, Prado. Other frameworks and libraries will be added gradually depending on customer demand.
-Preview - cursor and Cursor-preview synchronization. When this feature is switched on, the preview window auto-scrolls itself at the place in the page which corresponds to the location of your cursor in the editor area of your HTML code. The corresponding item in the preview area will be highlighted. The opposite works also– when you click inside the preview area, the cursor is placed at the right place in your HTML code.
-Improved speed of the editor’s parsing engine. Tests show that even files with more than 200’000 characters in one line are handled properly (now the editor has some major problems with long lines)
-Support for Smarty files
-More efficient text editing using the new Macro recording, saving and play feature
-JavaScript supports { and } collapsing
-Improved bracket highlighting (highlighting won't work in comments, the blue bracket highlighting in strings will be limited by the green bracket highlighting).

This is not the final list... :)

Cursor-preview synchronization - This is the feature that catches my eye the most. Looking forward to it. My other personal wishlist improvements would be mainly with the file explorer. Any improvements in that area? Sometimes I find the minor improvements are better than bigger new features.

Sounds grand to me, especially the cursor sync mode, that is already in some other editors and I like it. Looks like WB is going to be the best yet again.

@mapleleaf
I can see macros on that list, next to the 'more efficient text editing' line, or is that not the macros you meant?

Anyway, I'm looking forward to trying it out. Thanks Gatis for the teasers.
