WeBuilder 2011 Beta1: Macro support

Post by JSpav »

Thanks for the opportunity to play with this new version. I guess this update only happened after a lot of long nights and deadline chasing. Well done.

My main anticipation was macros. I saw there was no mention of them in help and am guessing that'll be written later.

Meantime, I looked but didn't find a sub-directory where they are stored so I could look at their format and tweak what I had recorded.
I was hoping to find how to get rid of the extraneous keystrokes I enter as I record them. So far all I've been able to do is record strings and enter them by assigning a key to the macro. The library already provides this ability and I can't see what else macros can do. I am hoping they can call menu items, replicate keyboard actions and, maybe, even mouse movement/clicks?

I think I am missing something but haven't been able to infer how to make these more useful.

The beta, by the way, runs flawlessly on my Win 7, 64 bit installation.

tks

I share exactly your anticipation for Macros. I have approx 50 pages to make changes that with the help of Macros will prevent me from getting numb fingers.

That said, I am sure they are aware of this aspect and will in the future make it more effective/efficient. It is however opening Pandora's box with respect to html5 support in so far as keeping update with the changes that occur and the increased support by the browser vendors.

In some respect, I believe that Blumental should have continued to enhance the 2010 version then work on for lack of a better word a 2011 special edition that is purely for html5 as a separate product thus giving development a greater amount of time.

It did however, find a couple of errors that I had missed or didn't see which caused me a couple of extra grey hairs ;-) as I converted from a flash environment to html5. Believe me html5 is for lack of a better term 'a living document' more so than either html or xhtml.

I am curious though in how many that visit this forum use html5 in designing their web sites,

My only grip is that the different browsers vendors should pull together more with their and html5 support and get CSS3 on the road.

If one uses the following link one is able to check the html5 support for the different browser( I do believe that I post this link in another section)
check this out IF you haven't already.

FF made the greatest improvement when looking at FF3.6 to FF4.01, FF5.0a2, FF6.0a2 but still lags behind Chrome; respectively 240/269. IE8 is still at the bottom that is expected and I dont know what it is for IE9 as I dont have it, yet.

Can you add some word at the end (or middle of the line, or other specific location) for lines 1, 2, 3 , 4, ..., each line in your file? Currently there are no Macro editing features, and it won't come in nearest future because the internals of the Macro functionality are quite complex. However, all suggestions are welcome.
