Can't associate the HTML file extension with WeBuilder 11
I've just upgraded from WeBuilder 2008 to WeBuilder 2011 (operating system is Windows XP Pro).
I'm having no luck associating the filetypes html, htm and shtml with WeBuilder (though weirdly have been able to do so with php).
I right-click and choose "Open With". WeBuilder is not appearing in the list of programs, so I choose "Choose Program". WeBuilder appears in neither the list of "Recommend Programs" or the further list of "Other Programs". I click on the "Browse" button and navigate to webuild.exe and select it. Normally at this point Windows displays the relevant icon and you can tick the "Always use the selected program" option so it remembers your preference. However the WeBuilder icon is nowhere to be seen, and in fact it's chosen to default again to Google Chrome!
Any suggestions?

Re: Can't associate the HTML file extension with WeBuilder 11
I have also just upgraded from Webuilder 2008 to 2011 and I am experiencing almost exactly the same problem. The only difference is that I cannot get any file associations to work either from within Webuilder Options > Preferences > Files > Associations or from within Windows Explorer (XP). I can browse for webuilder.exe but no response, no icon, no presence in the program list.
Re: Can't associate the HTML file extension with WeBuilder 11
The question is, why would you want to associate html with WeBuilder anyway? That file type isn't in the WeBuilder options for a reason. Usually this file type is handled by your default browser and it may well be grabbing it back if you try and change it to something else (it could also cause unexpected behaviour). As for webuilder.exe not showing up in the open with dialogs, most third-party programs don't, we usually have to browse for them. As for the icon not showing, I have no idea.
I do know some software constantly monitors its file associations and if they change, grabs them back again. Winamp has an option for this with media files, as does some PDF software for PDFs. As I mentioned, most browsers, if set to be the default handler (which means they are the default program for html, htm and other web files), will often try to re-associate every time the browser starts up. It is the sort of thing both later versions of Internet Explorer and Google Chrome would do and given the new functions of the Microsoft product and the many hidden services and scheduled tasks installed by any Google software, I wouldn't be surprised if it is either of them hijacking the associations back. That said, maybe I'm just full of it.
You may be able to go into the advanced file properties (in the Tools, Folder Options, File types dialog) and set up a separate action for opening (your web browser usually) and editing (WeBuilder). For example, in Windows 7, I have a right-click context menu with open (with Opera) and Edit (with WeBuilder) both available. I have no idea with XP as I haven't had WeBuilder installed on XP for many years and have no recent experience with it.

Re: Can't associate the HTML file extension with WeBuilder 11
I take your point Dave, but I'm a full-time web editor, and it's a lot simpler for me to double-click on a file and have it open in my web editing software than it is to have to go via the WeBuilder "open file" method.
I've been using WeBuilder for years and years and it's never been a problem until this upgrade to v11.

Re: Can't associate the HTML file extension with WeBuilder 11
I can't associate anything. php, css, etc. Maybe my issue should be in another thread.
Re: Can't associate the HTML file extension with WeBuilder 11
Php is the only one I CAN associate WeBuilder with; I have a feeling whatever fixes my issue will also fix yours, Graham!
Re: Can't associate the HTML file extension with WeBuilder 11
From my point of view this is a significant bug. What do I need to do to escalate it to get some attention?
Re: Can't associate the HTML file extension with WeBuilder 11
@RLN and Graham
Fair comments both of you.
You are both using XP by the sound of it. I am running Windows 7 and the software appears in the Programs list and once I browsed and added it using webuilder.exe, in the Other Programs list (refer image below). It must be something to do with XP unless someone else running Vista or 7 has this issue as well.

The devs usually check posts here for bugs but I think you can report bugs directly via the support page on their website, which might get them looking into things quicker.
I hope it gets sorted for you soon

Ok, going to put in the bug forum!

Hi,
I can confirm the same issue on my PC (I have also a XP). We will look for causes and possible fixes.
