Large Files

Post by bif »

I bought RapidPHP 2007 and I'm still amazed. But there is one thing that always drove me nuts - opening large files (e.g. MySQL dumps, log files) in RapidPHP... While opening a 50 MB MySQL dump in PSPad takes about 2 seconds, RapidPHP freezes opening this file size.
So I thought maybe the new version (2011) doesn't have this issue anymore, I just downloaded the trial version and surprise surprise...it's still the same...

Maybe there is a hint or workaround? I can't believe that this is really an issue?

Unfortunately I don't think anything was changed in that part of the software between 2010 and 2011. I am aware that in previous versions of HTMLPad and WeBuilder, files with unusually long lines of code in the same tag would hang things up a bit, though that seems to have been at least partially resolved. It would likely mean an entire rewrite of the interface to change that behaviour and I suppose it is a matter of whether to spend time doing that or perhaps using the time to develop some new and requested features; present company excepted, I wouldn't imagine many of us open files of that size all that often, so it may be a case of the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few.

These editors are not perfect, but they are getting there (for my needs at any rate).

I agree with you! I don't open those files to often but... I use WinSCP for SSH and within WinSCP I defined 'RapidPHP' as the default editor. That way, I can edit my PHP, HTML, CSS stuff directly on the server with RapidPHP. Just double click and bham you go. Just because I'm used to work this way I sometimes - unfortunately - double click (instead of downloading) on one of those huge files, e.g. after dumping the database, and then RapidPHP freezes and I can't access all the other files that are opened in RapidPHP. In most cases I have to kill RapidPHP via the task killer (annoying if you had unsaved files opened in RapidPHP...)
